A vast majority of guestbooks on Gocougar.com are not signed.

I thought this was very strange until I signed my own guestbook, to investigate.

It turns out that when a guestbook is signed, it goes into a state of limbo until the guestbook owner approves it. This is all well and good, except to find out if anyone has even written in your guestbook, you have to go to your guestbook and click on a separate "Unapproved entries" tab.

I think the system needs to be reformatted to where people are notified when someone has signed their guestbooks. Otherwise, you have all these comments that never get acknowledged, or even read.

Thanks for posting that useful peice of information...I had no idea, so went to check and I actually had a post there!! not sure how long it's been there....but I just approved it. There is definately a need for some kind of notification.

When I get a comment that's worth approving then I'll do that - the last time I looked, it was a small collection of inanities.

that the site was designed with some ideas that aimed to make it more of a social network type of site but, it never took off that way. The site is extremely slow to load on the goC side with the friends lists etc. The social aspect of it seems sort of silly when you are actually here to "date" not make a bunch of "friends". I don't see the point in collecting comments and links to other people's profiles when you are looking for a potential relationship. Oh, and luna's point on inane comments is quite valid it's also true for some of the photo comments. We are after all supposed to be grown ups.

Houston, about photo comments, I've always wondered about some of the comments made by some of the women -- I've never heard many of them anywhere else, not blogs or forums.

The site is under constant development and yes there are many areas that could be improved. We will add guest book improvements to our next round of updates.

goCougar has grown large and we are acutely aware of the performance issues. This will be addressed next week, when we will be moving goCougar to a new hosting platform that will improve performance considerably. The site will be inaccessible while we move the core of the site and thousands of pictures and messages.

WOW, thank you for that info jakomrak!!! I had NO idea!! I went back and looked under my "unapproved entries" and I had 3 pages worth!! Dating back to mid October 2009 which was shortly after I joined the site. I wonder what else there is on this site that no one knows to check for!!

Hmmm, that sort of reminds me of shopping sites where when you're looking at one item it suggests, "you might also like..."

good one Violet. I don't think I made myself real clear but I guess stupid comments or blatantly sexual ones steer us clear of some types.

PRECISELY! That's why they're so useful... kind of like a window to the soul, etc.

Violet and I met because I'd left a comment on a guy's profile, and she contacted me about it.
