Yeah Houston, instead of a virtual bar scene it might be more like a coffee klatsch but that wouldn't be a bad thing at all! The biggest problem would be getting in at the right time, at least for me!

not so sure about the invite only for cubs, cause isnt the point of this site to get cougars and cubs together? anyway since the last sugestion from the admin was 3 years ago may i make a sugestion? what if we set up an online meeting on another chat room? like maybe one of us could start up a private conference in yahoo messanger and then invite several cougars and cubs from this site to join? i mean it seems a bit out of the way but that way we could all get together and chat right?

Hey I agree with the guys on this one! We already have our own little "club house"...no boys allowed. The chatroom should have the same rules for everyone. This is starting to wub me the wong way!

If you don't mind downloading a basic client, then I can set up a chatroom for the forums pretty much straight away. I recommend mIRC. IT'S FREE - NO SPYWARE/ADWARE/ANYWHERE :P I use it all the time for various chat rooms.

Setting up mIRC

-Download mIRC
-Install mIRC
-Start mIRC
-Close the About window
-Fill in a nickname you want to use while chatting, as well as an alternative when it is taken. Also fill in the email and real name field, although these last two can be fake. -----Then press OK
-Enter the following in the small bar at the bottom of the window that shows up:
/server irc.empireirc.net -j #gocougar
-And of course press enter
-You're in! Type messages in the bottom bar of the screen, further things should be obvious.

-There are a number of handy commands you can use while in the chat.
-The different looking text such as "* dan dan goes off to moderate the forums" can be produced with the /me command:
/me goes off to moderate the forums
-You can change your nickname with /nick:
/nick OtherNick
-You can send someone a private message others can see with /msg:
/msg dan dan Are you really the great dan dan?
There's far more, of course, but this is a start.

If you have any questions then just ask them here, I look forward to chatting to anyone who decides to give it a go :P

As for the issue of bad people turning up, well moderator like people (ops) can be made and they can kick/ban people from the chat.

I think a chatroom would help increase traffic to the site 10x. It just needs to be moderated to keep out the creepers and shady dudes. A requirement should be to register so you don't get random people in there being gross.

It's possible to register a nickname, so that only you can use it.. and it's also possible to moderate the channel so that only those with registered names can talk. It would be nice if someone gave my instructions a go, so I know I didn't miss any steps. I don't claim to be an expert in this field, but if you have any concerns/queries then I will do my best to answer them!

I agree totally with Taylor! I think that there should be some screening process...somewhat like the procedure that eventually allows us into the Women's and Men's forums. But our current moderator, as diligent as she is, can't be there 24/7...so who's gonna moderate when WnW is sleeping? LOL Other than that, I am sooo into the chatroom!
