How skewed?....because it doesn't match your definition?... I think you enjoy provacation, I watch your threads with interest and you seem to enjoy creating controversy. I'm merely pointing out an observation.

I agree Wnw - we can have a far more intelligent and dynamic conversation if we are not trying to challenge every participant to 'define' every word they are using, particularly when the meaning of the words is clear and unambiguous

someone dared to examine what you said. Having their pretense of knowledge 'shown up' can be quite irritating for some people. It's a basic question I asked. You could've been civil and just simply defined it. Yet, you chose to be awkward. Yes, enquiring into a concept. It's called thinking, you might want to try it some time. I clearly wasn't challenging you to define every word. So please, spare us all from your gaping hyperbole. To you the meaning might be clear and unambiguous, but how do I know we are singing off the same sheet? Should I just assume? But what if my assumption's wrong? Wouldn't that lead to some confusion or mix-up later on in the conversation? So, is it not reasonable to ask questions as a way of clarification? |

I've read this aged thread from the beginning, and find it amusing that it began with a discussion of our possible response to a man dressed in an old military uniform (which I personally think is HOT btw)...and has evolved into a debate on the definition of words or our perception of that definition. I find the resurrection of this thread to be amusing at best....I wonder why every word has be dissected with little or no discussion of the original subject. I've somehow forgotten what that was....oh yeah, the uniform thing. LOL |

Ask yourself this: Has every word really been dissected, or am I just exaggerating? And yes, I'm in no rush lol |

It just seemed to me that your original post was put to rest by an unrelated argument. Frankly, I thought the question posed was far more fun than the battle of words that ensued. That's all. Peace ~ |

Well not automatically. It would depend on his reasons for dressing in such a way and then going out in public so dressed! He might be a LARP fan - live action role play - where people get together every so often, dressed in clothing related to a certain period in history, and act-out various characters, battles, whatever. It's just fun and many people love it. He might just be an eccentric. He might even be interesting. However - whilst I do have a male friend (English) that loves WWI and WWII German uniforms and weapons, and prefers to act-out the part of a German soldier or officer, I would say this is less common than those that prefer to portray Allied servicemen! This is particularly true of WWII enactors. Having said that, somebody has to play German troops on the day - or there would be no battle enactment at all! **Ah! Have just read some opening posts. If he is doing it 'to feel important' then I would probably not think him in any way cool. Even so he would have a right to dress this way, gun and all, if he so wished. He would risk being seen as foolish or downright sad, as they say in the UK, but hey! Live and let live lol. The attitude of other MEN might be more interesting to see! He might be seen as deliberately provocative - or just an eejit in a costume trying to get attention in one way or another. ** Last edited by elfprincess; 02-13-2012 at 03:01 AM. |
