I thought this article to be humorous but at the same time serious in its implications for both guys and girls who lie (though it all depends on what country you are in).

That is interesting.

I expect that in many many "relationships" it is not unusual for sexual relationships to be as result of misleading information supplied by someone

I'm single
I am looking for a life partner
I'm a doctor
I'm wealthy
I'm healthy
I'm a protestant etc etc

and maybe most of all "I love you"

One used to be able to sue for "breach of promise" - perhaps the law will move back that way one day for other lies told too!

Yes this article seems very geographically and culturally-specific.

I can't see it happening easily elsewhere.

What strikes me is that it's an interesting take on the "women lie about rape" mantra which prevents many women (and men) from speaking out about their experience. I might well have this article up my sleeve the next time I'm arguing about this so thanks for posting!

It's an interesting premise. For example, if they could do so, how many men and women would take a lover to court once they discovered that s/he was actually married?

Would the possibility of this happening keep married people from screwing around on their partners?

There is such a charge of 'rape by deception' but I doubt that it is used anything but rarely here: there was a case in 2007 when a man told a woman that sex with him was a treatment for an infection she had so she complied. He walked free from court for a variety of reasons I believe.
