I am not sure Violet, maybe it's a service they offer for our military that are deployed overseas. It would be a good idea anyway.

Skype is the way to go, or Yahoo messenger works somewhat as well. I've also used Windows Messenger or MSN messenger or something like that.

It must be a military thing, I haven't heard anything about free calls from computer to phone. Yes, indeed, Skype is a godsend. GoogleTalk and Yahoo are good in a pinch as well, but I have had bad experiences with MSN.

Yeah, they are not as reliable, but its better than just typing to each other. Gotta love the free stuff when you can use it.

I added international to my current cell phone plan for $10 a month, UNLIMITED. I thought about Skype, which I already have btw....but I can't Skype on my break at work! hehe He gets a little upset that I have toys that he doesn't...like the webcam and international calling etc, but he'll get those things in due time. If not, then I will think he can't save for airfare either, and if we can't meet up at some point...and not a year or 2 from now...I'm not getting any younger! LOL....then I'll have to let him go. I'm not entirely impractical. ;-)

That is a real good deal, Valerie! When my SO and I became serious I ended up changing mobile providers so I could get the free mobile to mobile minutes. It worked out good because both my mom and brother had also switched to the same provider as bf's (coincidence), so I save calling them as well.

If I hadn't switched companies my phone bill would be pretty ugly.

I am glad I finally have unlimited texting, but only in the US. Not internationally yet. 10 dollars a month isn't THAT bad though.

I guess if BOTH parties are in love then yes sure it can work because love really DOES conqour all!!!! but it really has to be a 2 way street or its just never goona happen, and a big issues with long distance relationships is TRUST!!! you have to know deep down in your heart that the both of you are secure and happy with eachother!
And how long should that take, Curt? I mean, to establish the trust? BTW, that is just WRONG to break up with someone in email....it's just a notch above texting someone to do the same! So cowardly and disrespectful!

Some people can be so cruel and thoughtless. At another forum I visit for LDRs I sometimes get bored and will go read the stories in the Infidelities section (they're always interesting and lurid). By far the worst break up was a man who left his wife to be with his other woman. The night before he made love to the OW, kissed her on the cheek the next day, said he loved her, and left to a doctor's appt.

And that was it! He didn't contact her after that, only to ask for some keys back. Needless to say the lack of closure turned her into a basketcase.
