Default Who Wants To Be A Golden Girl?

I was talking with an Italian friend in her 40s who is married with children. I told her about the old American TV program, The Golden Girls, and how those four older women shared a house, but had their own lives/jobs/romances/privacy: as housemates they shared bills, meals and friendship together. During difficult times they were also a great support to each other.

I told my friend that it would be a more interesting way for an older woman to live compared to the typical Italian lifestyle of the older, usually widowed woman who lives alone but is overly-involved in the lives of her adult children who often resent her interference. I said, "Since women usually outlive their men, the probability is that you might become a widow some day, so if you want to consider being housemates in the future, let me know!" She immediately popped back, "Do I have to wait until my husband dies?" True story, hahaah!

Actually Luna, I thought of this idea a few years back and it was also a suggestion in AARP, the american retirement magazine. I would love to find about 3 other cougars to share a house with..have our own romances, lives, jobs, retirement, travel and be there for each other! It is my goal if I don't find another man that takes me seriously enough to be committed to me.

I LOVED THAT SHOW!!! I still watch it in reruns sometimes. I have had the same thought for years. It is so very true that so many women after loosing their husband has nothing familiar other than her children cause she has dedicated her life to the family. She ends up babysittin all the time or these darn kids try to run her life so far as her trying to date and such. If you are around women that are going through similar things then you can actually have a back up when it comes to making a life. I think it would make a person happier to have friends and roomies making your life bearable and you would live longer.

I'm glad to hear that other women are on the same page - it's always an option for the future!

Would it not be soooo much fun to have women who are on the same page with similar values share a house? We'd have our own cougar community. We could call it the cougar den.

All the young men could come for parties...we could have some nice musicians and artists and intellectuals... OOOOOO, I know, we could sponsor a life drawing class and paint some yummy cub in the buff! Or, or...we could serve sushi off some young stud's six packed torso!

I like your thinking gypsy!! I love sushi and eating it off some young stud's 6 pack sounds ooohhhh so delisioso!! And soooooo "Sex and the City" (remember the episode where Samantha covered her body with sushi and waited for Smith to come home, haha!) I vote you Den Master of the Cougar Den!! Strangely enough, I have been thinking the past few days they should rename this forum the Cougar Den. In which case I would get to be the Den Master here, hahaha!!!

Seriously though, I never thought about the living with other women thing before. But not a bad idea at all. But ONLY if they were cougars. Couldn't handle having any old ideas or old men around the house!

Default I'm with you luna

and I already have a design for a cougar compound! If I happen to win the Texas lottery any time soon I will build it and send you the key to your own pod!!! Oh and you other ladies can move in too since I think the jackpot is a cash payout of about 65 million so the more the merrier... orrrr we could just all pitch in and get the whole idea off the ground if we hit it off in nyc or vegas!
