Default Married my mother?????

Why is it whenever a younger man marries a much older woman a lot of people say that he married his mother?

I, who is living it, totally disagree with that assumption made by many to me over the years. Our marriage is nothing like this....it is based on everything that everybody else's marriages are based on. She does not wait on me like my mother did when I was young, we are equals and I do a lot of things for myself AND I am the bread winner, she was no sugar momma.

Don't you all hate stereotypes?

People that say stuff like that are ignorant. They don't understand so they have to try and come up with a "reason" in their own minds that makes sense to THEM. I just ignore people like that. Seriously. Let them be close-minded and you and your woman just be happy together!!

P.S. - one of my best friends married a man who is MUCH older than her so some people say she married her "father". And no, she did not marry him for money at all. So that stereo-type can go both ways.

When I first read the Title it scared me hahaha and I thought geeeeez do I want to read this until I got here. John there is always going to be stupid people in this world and some that should have been drowned at birth but you are living in a happy marriage no matter what the age is. Next time someone says anything ask them how their marriage is going and if they are honest probably not so good. I learned along time ago that people are going to whisper, talk, judge, point fingers, stare, and ask dumba^% questions about something they know nothing about so f them. John you and your lovely wife set the example for the rest of us and always be happy.....

Default I wouldn't

say that people who say and do these kinds of things are stupid I would say uneducated, close minded and frightened people are more like it. Many people who encounter people or situations that are out of their comfort zone protest, argue and debase the people involved because they are uncomfortable or even scared of the way others live their lives. You may even encounter subconscious jealousy...

I agree with most of what you all said and I agree with Houstoncougar in that most of these people are not stupid, just closed minded and judgmental would be more like it.

I just usually respond with "you are not qualified to make that kind of assumption and you are way off the mark". Sometimes I tell them that they are being judgmental soley based on age.
