My 23 yr old boyfriend is being shunned by his friends for dating me...

i won't date a younger guy if he will not take me out in public. I am sorry that this is happening to you and your younger boyfriend. I do believe that ow/ym is becoming more common, so in a while it will not matter. When an older guy dates a younger girl, he gets patted on the back, when an older woman dates a younger man she gets greased for it. I don't care what people think. I usually get dirty looks from guys my age when i am out with a younger guy.

I wish I could offer you insight, if you care for each other, the hell with what everyone else thinks.

The situation you brought up seems really unusual to me. Sure most guys in their 20's will probably tease their friend for dating an older woman, but we make fun of each other for just about everything anyway. What you're describing sounds much worse, so I'm inclined to believe that your boyfriend just had some really lousy friends. I can't imagine the size of the stick that's been shoved up their asses to make them react so drastically. I may not know the entire situation, but I'll bet these 'friends' of his weren't worth keeping anyway.

Thank you all for your responses and please keep them coming its nice to hear from others, cause I feel so isolated in this situation. I do think he learned very quickly who his true friends are and I told him that in life, friends will come and go and that he'll always meet new friends. As far as going out, we go out all the time in public. We go to the movies, bowling, the zoo, restaurants, baseball games etc... He is so happy to have me on his arm and is very proud to show me off, (which makes me feel so good inside). I do agree with "mar9961" I see guys my age eyeballing me when I'm out with my guy, but I'm glad he isn't hiding me or his feelings of love toward me. I think I found a wonderful guy that just ended up having very jealous & callous friends!

well i can only see one side of your smile, but i can still tell there's too much personality and fun behind to not want to share it with my friends or whoever. sounds like your friend wasnt ready for someone like you or big enough to back his own convictions

Devils advocate isn't a bad role to play. Helps show the "out of the box" prospective to people.

I think his friends are probably jealous that it's not them. If you both love each other I hope you can work through it, as hard as it may be. Just remember whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger!! I'm a 46 year old woman and I hope that someday I will find what you both have.

Sad as it sounds, guys you were freinds with in your younger days, teens early twenties and such. Theses people end up a your freinds through circumstance, you know like you live close by, you share a class or you go to a similar club. All in all most of your first group of freinds will let you down in the end, money, women, sports. Three things i lost all my "first" freinds through, a couple for the exact same reason as the original post. My freinds acted like i was weird, though they were still having Halo competitions on their X-Box's. Need i say more.

I guess my point in this rambling is that in the end he will find new freinds, its best to cut away the deadweights they only hold you back.

I just want to take a moment here to thank you ALL, for your opinions, I really appreciate them dearly. We just got back from a 3 day holiday spent with MY family and everybody loved my new boyfriend. Especially my mom! : ) She said she could how well he treats me and that she could see that I am very happy. YAY! I am probably going to be moving out of San Francisco in about 6 months when my lease is up and my boyfriend whom has been shunned by his friends asked me if he could come with me. Aww! I told him yes. I think he got a real eye opener with his so called friends shunning him. I am in love for the 1st time in 20yrs and I really don't care anymore what the world thinks about our 19 year age difference. WE ARE HAPPY, LIFE IS SHORT AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS!!! : )
