It seems that it becoming more and more common for women to date younger men...Is it likely that older guys going out with younger women will be quite rare in the future? and women with younger men will be the norm? Will there be loads of single older guys?

Well, if more younger guys will be dating older women, what are the younger women going to do?

if you watch the demographic situation you see a shortage of young girls in the young generation and in the generation over 40 years there are a little bit more women than men. that explains a lot about that trend.

I think that the trend of older men and younger women (believe me, I was in this trend in my 20s going out with men over 35) is a thing of the past. Why older men/younger women? Because in pre-industrial societies older men held resources and access to multiple females (wives and mistresses). Today we women hold our resources, and no need for a dominant powerful male to support us. In addition, the Oedipus myth that dear Dr. Freud imposed in our collective subconsciousness, supported the idea of older men/younger women, by creating guilt on those younger men who sought the powerful older women (I think Dr. Freud was afraid of powerful women... just a thought). The fact is that, in today's world, when we women get older, we are more sure of ourselves, we are independent, we have a healthy(ier) self-esteem, and sexually we have waaaay more fun; no worries; just relax and enjoy the moment. Younger men begin dating older women because the self-confidence we express; we know what we want, we don't whine about petty little problems as the younger females, and the guys figured this out. So, in my view, I believe this is the reason the trend is catching on.

to me nowadays its like younger girls older guys cuz they want something more they feel like whereas older woman younger men cuz woman wanna get that sense of revitalization n the only way to prove this to themselves is by eating a fresh fruits from the tree of adam instead of the older raw distastefull one ..and its been a trend which started a few years ago and looks like its only gonna throttle forward faster but iam down with both ways we all win no matter what.

yes, of course you're right. but there are a lot things which influences that fact. the sex ratio in the usa is 1.05 male per female and in germany it is even higher at the age of brith. in asia, they have a sex ratio of 1.15 m per female, due to the high number of aborions. this causes a kind of arrogance by young girls because they are very choosy when they look for a partner.
the generation over 30 or 40 years is consist of more women than men, due to a higher death ratio of young men in their 20s. that fact forces many women over 35 to look for a younger partner unless they want to stay alone. that's why women in their 40s often try to stay young and so they often appreciate the typical behaviour of young men. that make older women very interesting for men in their 20s. young men have to look for older women because of e shortage of same aged girls and mature women have to look for younger men because of the shortage of same aged men, so in the future, ym and ow will find together more often than in the past. that will be a trend which won't change until the sex ratio of birth will change in a surplus of girls.

know I really don't care about what wiki has to say about demographics etc. Older women have always desired younger men the same as younger men have always desired older women. It is only recently since the media has made it more acceptable that SOME younger men have had the balls to date older women without trying to hide it from their families their friends and sometimes from themselves. On the other hand most of the older women that I have had the pleasure of being friends with on this site have ALWAYS dated younger guys and it has nothing to do with the media, demographics or other people's opinions we JUST PREFER YOUNGER MEN, ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL!!!

I'll go with a combination of everything. Older women being attracted to younger guys, the guys getting fed up with self absorbed girls their age, and the demographic thing. All those things seem to play into it.

And men, such as Freud and the like, maintained this myth older men/ young women by providing "proof" that if a young men is attracted to an older woman he is "suffering" from the Oedipus complex (looking for a substitute for his mother), a sort of sexual aberration; I don't think this was ever true. If young men want older women because it makes them feel secure, sure, that they have someone whom they can really talk to (the "airhead vs maturity" factor) that is normal. It should be normal, and acceptable, just like older men dating younger women (which is the actual aberration, where older man needs the young one to feel that they are still virile and viable).
