Default Am I a cougar?

I enjoy foruming, and somehow stumbled into here where a thread on long distance relationships caught my eye so I decided to register.

I am 31 and in a relationship with a 20 year old (he turns 21 in August). I have had many reservations about our age difference, though he and his family are fine with it. Since being with him I have felt like a cougar, but I guess technically I am not one? I never dated or preferred younger men, one just fell into my lap.

People tell me our age difference is not that big... but as I said in another forum... when your boyfriend asks you if Princess Di's death was that big of a deal it makes one feel awkward!

So these seem like nice forums, I think I would like to contribute every so often. It is nice to meet everyone. =)

Welcome darkly1. I think most would technically say you're not a cougar until 35, but it really is all about accepting people for who they are, no matter the age. You obviously have an open mind and may still be dating 20 year old men by the time your 50, who knows?

Enjoy the forums and I look forward to reading your posts.

Hi darkly1 and welcome to the forum. In my thinking a cougar has to be 40+ and for me I want my cub to be at least 15yrs younger. I too look forward to seeing you post and have fun.

to me a woman that is 40 or older going out with or seeing a guy 15+ years or more is considered a cougar, but that just my opinion, everyone has their own definition, don't we. "WELCOME" to the forums darkly1 nice to have you here

Opinions may be opinions, but so far, an overwhelming majority say 40+, because anything less than 15 years difference isn't a significant age gap. Nevertheless, you have a valid reason for being here, and we always try to be supportive. If support is what you seek, Agelesslove (dot com) is designed to be more of an age gap support site than a meeting place. Not trying to chase you out...LOL...just pointing out other options. :-)

I think the term "cougar" is subjective. I would say welcome to the site. As far as I am concerned there is no written rule that a cougar has to be a certain amount older but I think she just has to prefer younger men. I suppose I am technically not a cougar myself because even though I am 44 I have never been with anyone 15+ years younger. The biggest age difference I have had was 8 years...I would date a 29 year old if the situation was right. So far it just hasn't worked out that way.

I think that when you're 30, a 10 year age gap seems a lot larger than if you're 40 or 50. So maybe we'll just call you a cougar in training Welcome to the site!
