Laine, red velvet is actually a very smooth chocolate cake that looks red (I am guessing with food coloring?). They usually have a cream cheese frosting on them. All I know is, they are really, really yummy and you should definitely try one if you get the chance!!

I believe there's other ingredients WnW in the red velvet cake. Being from south phoenix , the experience I've had is that it's a soul food recipe and very coveted. Only certain ladies in this part of Phoenix make the real red velvet cake and they are paid very well for making it.

Can anyone help us out with that special flavor that is in the red velvet cake? Yum, Yum.

Oh, don't forget Cathy's Rum Cake in Chandler! O M G Is the rum in the pudding or the cake or the fruit? O M G.

Never heard of that place phxgirl, but now I'm gonna have to go!! Good thing I started working out again this week, haha!! And I am sure you are right about the red velvet cake. I don't bake, so what do I know? I just know it's yummy!

Really??? ladies this is serious cake stuff we are talking about here.....I mean in the UK we have battenburgh....doesn't really measure up lol I feel a trip to the states coming on...Just a useless peice of information I emigrated to West Virginia when I was 7 with my parents...sadly they moved back to the UK after a year
