I dated a dutch boy recently, 16 year age gap (35-19). He's from a small town in Holland, Edam (yup, where the cheese is from). Though the difference in our ages wasn't really noticeable, as soon as his family found out how old I was there was an uproar. On the other hand, in Amsterdam nobody seemed to care.
I believe, like Luna mentioned, it's more of a "small town" thing. Everyone knows everyone and gossip is a way of life.
I lived in Mexico City for 15 years (population: 20 million), and I was never frowned upon when seen with someone younger than myself. Everyone is too busy surviving the city haha.
