Just to go off at a little tangent in response to one of HC's posts: here in London people get called 'love' all the time in a casual way such as: market trader will say ' Can I help you love?' but then it can also be used in a ****ed off kind of way eg 'Look love you can get out the pub now as I'm not serving you again' To which one might reply in an even more ****ed off kind of way 'I'm not your love so don't call me that'. Oh jolly cockney goings-on!

ahhh, so what I thought was an endearment can be used in a derogatory way... interesting. I would really like to visit the U.K. I think I will check to see if my vacation club has a resort somewhere over there!

HC it would be great if you could cross the pond on a visit and include Ireland where the craic is mighty - you'd love it! And don't get me wrong 'love' is often a term of endearment used affectionately towards yr kids, partner etc and 'sweetheart' is used in the same way - mostly friendly but sometimes not quite so
