How do you find out?

So there's this girl I'm interested in. We both go to school and as far as I knew four months ago, she had a boyfriend. However, I always stared at her and tried to get her attention by throwing random stuff on her table. She would throw it back and I'd throw it back and we'd both smile and laugh. It was great - only problem was her boyfriend. Before that, she handed me her phone number after I just asked for it. I never really did anything though, I did the occasional, "Hey, hows it going?" and that was about it.

However, I find myself still liking her and still have a hold of her phone number but I don't see her at school a lot. If I do, it's only for a brief second as it's between passing periods. I tried to talk to her yesterday via text (god help me (I just don't like texting)) and she said it was too bad that she didn't see me anymore as much. So that sort of gave me a hint that she might just be interested, so we talked a little more and bang - end of conversation.

Now, I find myself not knowing what to do. I don't know if she has a boyfriend or anything. How do I find out, would directly asking her imply anything? However, she sort of has an idea I have a thing for her since my friends teased me once and being the shy person that I was, when they said, "Hey, (enter girls name), (enter my name) likes you!" I sort of just buried my face between my arms.

How would I find out if she does have a boyfriend or not? If I do, what steps do I even take? I'm a cub, young, have absolutely no idea what to do. I need guidance, and I do realize it. Whether you decide to help me or not, thanks for reading this...

I'm going to assume here that you are talking about a "girl" someone your own age or pretty near it (the throwing stuff at each other and the fact that your friends were teasing you about her in front of her screams juvenile behavior). In that case idk why you are on this site if it's just to get advice on how to approach females or to know if they are interested then let me give you a precise answer. Ask her. Yes, I understand that you're shy but honesty and directness are the best routes to finding out what you need to know. If she didn't totally blow you off she is probably interested so go from that and make your move.
