Default "Cutie"

Maybe some of the other women enjoy hearing it (please explain why), but for me it's a term I would never use, and really don't enjoy hearing applied to myself: at the very most, it's a term best used with a small child, or a pet. When I get "Hi cutie" messages from strangers, it never fails to make a bad impression - I'm not a child, and I'm sure not anyone's pet!

I'm not particularly formal, but "cutie" doesn't even sound appropriate, especially coming from a guy who's a lot younger than me.

I also dislike "Hey sexy" right off the bat: I don't need anonymous strangers to stroke my ego (of course, if I get to know someone then that kind of appreciation is welcome).

Agree? Disagree?

I agree Tarni, we younger men really do need to consider what our opening statement should be. If we are really going to convey just how atractive we find you then we must learn to articulate our feelings in a way which appeals.

ahahaha tantic, diminutives are good for younger guys!

You're right to avoid juvenile phrases or cliches. It's tricky to communicate attraction towards a woman in a first message in VirtualLand without sounding phony or sleazy - it's a lot easier in RealLife, where eyes can do a lot of talking!

Instead of "Omigod, u r so totally hawt!" or "U r my dream come true!", how about something more low-key but also more believable? Let me hear your ideas first - you can hear mine (or others) later, first I want to see what you come up with on your own

NOTE: In this post I'm replying to tantric but...where's his previous comment? (Actually I don't really care, I'm just writing this to show that I wasn't inventing any little imaginary friends to speak to...)

I tend to not read the start or the end of things. It will probubly disadvantage me at some point.

I don't mind being called "cute" as an adjective, but not "cutie", so I have to agree on that one, and the "Hey, sexy" text seems to be built into guys' phones!

Besides, I'm a grammar Nazi so if an email or text contains ANY adulterated form of you're (U R, Ur, Yer) I automatically hit delete.

There is no "online one-liner" that could possibly get my attention...

We only say "hey sexy" beacuse we can't spell beautiful. It is not the first time spelling has ruined a romantic gesture.

andy, that was hilarious. Well put.

I guess I'm lucky enough to have had a few that knew how to use spell check...among other things (like a napkin when eating...food...get your mind out of the gutter!!) ;D

No, "someone else" just likes to joke a lot. I must admit my humor can be on the naughty side sometimes but I also like stuff like XKCD and if a guy doesn't know what that is, he might not be nerdy enough for me!

(Yes, that's another joke...but if I can help another person in this world discover the beauty of XKCD, it's worth it.)
