Default First Attempt

I'm 20, and there's a woman in my Spanish class that's probably late 30's or early 40's. She's real cute and no wedding ring. I've never dated an older woman but this woman inspired me.

So, today I when class got out I waited outside, pretending to read the bulletin board. She stayed inside for a while but then I saw her leaving so I snuck up behind her and started conversation.

Me: These professors sure are friendly.
Her: Well, I like them.
Her: Were you being sardonic?
Me: No, I meant it.
Her: Oh.
Me: When I first saw Amber [the female professor], she reminded me of a woman I didn't like. But she turned out to be a very nice person.
Her: Yeah. They're nice.
Me: The homework is confusing though. Like our "cauderno"
Her: Yeah, that cauderno is f*cking confusing. You remember when we had to fill out that participation sheet. I saw it and more than 50% of the page was instruction on how to fill in a tiny square. Something's f*cking wrong when you need half the page for f*cking instructions.
[She didn't sound bitter, even though she was swearing a lot. Not very ladylike.]
By this time it was clear we needed to take seperate paths so she said bye. I wanted to tell her she was cute but maybe another time.

I don't think she was in a bad mood. She was just annoyed with the homework. But I don't really have time to have a long conversation with her. I can't talk to her in class so all I could do was chase her after class. I could invite her to a conversation another time, but that would be pretty much a date.

Wink Studies show

Study groups (4-6 people) improve learning. There are studies all over the net on this; you can google them. Maybe you could suggest that you be study partners. Inviting another 3 people to join you at a coffee shop would seem like an intrusion at first, but it would provide a consistent time/place/group to keep in touch with her. That way you don't have to chase her down after class each night.

Kudos to you for doing that by the way; it takes nerve!
Good luck and good grades!
