When in teachers college, my mother had a professor tell the class that God had provided a place for children to be spanked and it should be used occasionally. I was spanked occasionally as a child, as so were my children, it didn't hurt us one bit, it taught us that there are consequences to our actions. Child abuse however is a whole other can of worms.
