I think if you start a thread and it's hijacked then you should be able to request closure.....

Can I ask whether it would be possible for threads to be closed automatically once no-one has added to them for a set period of time, say 6 months? Sometimes people, usually newcomers, add to a thread that has been dormant for months or even years and it makes no sense. I have seen such closure happen on other sites eg Trip advisor

I was thinking the same thing Sonia. It only seems reasonable to close a thread then. There are so many, and we do touch on all the subjects of interest more than once.

Its good to know that all those OP's requesting their threads be closed will have their requests turned down now. After all we had the grand total of ONE such request made in the last 3 years didn't we (as far as I recall)? Its a relief to know that that can't happen again isn't it?

Well I'm too late to vote but I think it depends on the thread. If someone is asking a question and they feel that the question has been answered for them, then why not close it. Other topics though might be of interest to others and will continue on long after the author has lost interest in them.

Think it through before you post the thread, dont wait untill later then decide that you dont like the replies you are getting.
Live by the sword, die by the sword, its a no from me.
But if your thread gets hijacked thats a different matter, a job for the mods ...lol

Sounds reasonable to me, Mag - but it's so nice to hear it from neutral third party new entries!

The whole bit about hijacking is silly, though - forum exchanges are ongoing conversations that take different directions, not monothematic single-person presentations to be rigidly held to a specific theme.

In my opinion, of course.

Since we are allowed to delete our "blogs" on the front side of this site, I'm gonna say YES to allowing us to close a thread we created. Sometimes the thread gets hijacked, or it simply isn't going the way the OP intended. I believe this privilege will be for the better of the community as a whole.
