but are you independently wealthy Sonia? It is extremely expensive to travel outside of the US unless of course you have no children or responsibilities. Which seems to me to be why so many men have done way more traveling than most of the women I have had a chance to meet or talk to online. While they were busy working and then getting married and raising families the guys were out exploring. I have traveled to and through many states in the US and have visited Mexico and Canada but have yet to cross an ocean and don't see it happening anywhere in the near future due basically to money. I would love to see Paris, London, Ireland, Rome, Venice,the Greek Islands, Poland, and Costa Rica but, it seems as if something else always comes up... like having to have work done on the car, mortgage payments going up because taxes or home owners insurance went up or having to buy a new car because your daughter totaled yours, lol you know just everyday expenses.

If someone doesnt have to rely on weak currencies like USD/CAD/AUD it is actually very affordable to travel even with a midrange income.

Sonia is AFAIK in the UK and the GBP was always quiet strong, hence the good conversion rates. Plus Europeans were always more encouraged to leave their countries while many Americans never left the continental U.S. and even Hawaii / Alaska is a big event.

Flymaster, what does AFAIK mean? And Houston - my goodness me I am not wealthy AT ALL - quite the opposite. But, like Flymaster said, its cheap to travel to mainland Europe - Ireland, Paris, Rome etc as its so close to us in London that we can get a cheap flight or Eurostar and just stay for a few days. As far as my long haul plans go - they are in the future and I will save towards it: I don't drive and live quite frugally even though I have a dependent child - but anything is possible if you want it enough....thats my hope anyway

I know Stella and Valentine my maternal great grandparents came from Poland and my dad's dad came from Ireland and his wife came from France by way of Montreal and I'm sure they all came stowed away on some boat. But I really want to visit all of those places some day so I can see the places where my ancestors were from.
