Depends on how do you define "budget" !

I was flying a Round The World Ticket last OCT/NOV with 14 Stops on the way. Hotels I either paid with points or some of them, where the ratio was not worth it, cash.

Great trip and it cost less in the end than I planned.

Routing was:

Seoul-Singapore-Hong Kong-Beijing-Tokyo-Sydney-Los Angeles-New York-Miami-Buenos Aires-Rio de Janeiro-London-Paris-Moscow-Munich-Seoul.

(Tickets ex Seoul are much cheaper than other parts in the world which is the reason why I started there).

But they're only on like 2 blocks, in the "Red Zone", a very tourist orientated area.
so whats Mexico like, sadly you hear a lot of negative reports about gangs and stuff but i imagine its like everything in the media they only report the bad things

thanks Flymaster

sounds like quite a trip, would love to try it......would like to spend some time in each city though
is it cheaper just getting a round the world ticket than starting in a city and just finding cheap deals to get to the next,
as you can probably tell new to all this kind of thing

I spent about 4 days in each city and had side trips to Bali, Las Vegas & Nice.

It is much cheaper to book a Round The World Ticket because you would otherwise need one way tickets to get from point to point and these ae traditionally very expensive. I found a First Class Fare for 5400 EUR, Business was 3900 EUR and Economy 2200 EUR.

As a little extra, that trip earned me about 119.000 Bonus Airmiles which is good for another First ticket to North America.

Funnily enough I HAVE been to Kabul! Did the whole hippie overland to India journey in the 70's and spent 2 weeks travelling through Afghanistan: Nepal was fascinating and loved Kerala in southern India. Otherwise would recommend Rome and Barcelona and also liked Amsterdam and the Greek Islands. I believe the problem with those round the world tickets is you can't deviate from the route - well I suppose you can but then you would have to pay extra

It was an amazing experience Artie. I love seeing new places but always feel that you need to spend some time there - not just a few days which is ok for nearby cities say. So I never see the point of long haul trips for a couple of weeks. If you ever go to India spend some time there - I was lucky enough to be able to visit Kashmir which I think is out of bounds now sadly - and Nepal is stunning!

Nepal looks stunning in the pics and videos i've seen so can only imagine whats its like to actually be there
i plan to spend at least a couple of weeks in any city i go to, will need that time to really get the feeling for the place and not just pass through like a tourist
