I don't necessarily believe in love as an emotion but more of a choice. In my lifetime, no one I've ever cared for has given me any indication that my happiness is more important to them than their own. And I was married for 25 years.
So I don't think anyone should be taken aback by the fact that I'm finally caring about my own happiness, safety and emotional comfort over that of others. I'm used to being treated like a lady and I guess I just don't feel I should have to settle for less. The man who's willing to go that little extra mile is usually amply rewarded for his investment of effort...
